The Miracles visit KOOL
|Wednesday afternoon, the KOOL staff was treated to a mini-concert by The Miracles. It came in advance of their benefit show for Breast Cancer Awareness tomorrow night at the Comerica Theatre. With 51 chart singles to the group’s name, there will be plenty of hits to choose from including Shop Around, You Really Got A Hold On Me, Ooh Baby Baby, Tracks Of My Tears, Mickey’s Monkey, I Second That Emotion, Love Machine, and The Tears Of A Clown.I’ll be the first to admit this Miracles line-up blew away all expectations I had prior to the event, flawlessly singing and dancing with the passion and precision of Motown at it’s peak. Every note and every step were dead on.Sydney Justin, former St Louis Rams player, joined the group in 1995 and the line up today is: Sydney Justin, his brother Kerry Justin, Cordell Conway, and Melvin Bridges. Three our of the four group members live right here in the valley, with Kerry being the only non-Phoenician (he lives in Seattle).
Motown royalty will also be on stage as the First Lady of Motown, Claudette Robinson, makes a rare appearance with the group. She was married to group founder Smokey Robinson before divorcing in 1986 after 27 years of marriage. Claudette also sang and recorded with the original group for the first five years of its existence.
To give you a taste of what we saw, here’s video of the three songs they sang for us earlier this week, and an interview I did with Sydney yesterday.
