Fans of the high energy, pop-rock band Cheap Trick rejoiced at the Arizona State Fair on Wednesday evening when the band filled the crowd with their infectious, catchy, feel-good hits. The crowd was not phased by the distracting action and clamor of the fair around them, instead they were focused on jamming along with the three band mates who have been together since 1974. It was clear that many audience members have been fans for just as long, based on how they rocked out to their biggest hits like “I Want You to Want Me,” “Surrender,” and “Ain’t That a Shame.” With the high energy vibes from the band and enthusiasm from the crowd, you would never guess that Cheap Trick and their fans have had these tunes on repeat for a few decades.
After 15 studio albums, numerous live albums and countless movie soundtracks, as well as dozens of hit singles, it’s no wonder Cheap Trick is known as one of the great American bands. For a band that is famous for continuous touring over the last almost 40 years, it’s safe to say that Cheap Trick still has “it.” While we are still not sure what “it” might be, we never want it to stop. Cheap Trick’s performance undoubtedly left audience members chanting “I Want You to Want Me” the whole way home.
