Feeling KOOL – Gum Disease



Gum-disease bacteria are more sophisticated than originally thought.  Scientists with the University of Pennsylvania say they trigger protective proteins in the mouth to attack the gums.  They also prevent the body’s immune cells from attacking the invaders.  Researchers also found byproducts from gum inflammation feed the bad bacteria.  Periodontal disease affects as many as 47-million American adults.
