This morning on The 70’s With Steve Goddard I featured the top female singers of the decade, in honor of Mother’s Day.

But I’d like to take it a step further with a group of songs that also salute mom.

This is by no means a complete list of songs about mom, or mommy, or mama, but it is a good sample of hits that honor the most important woman in all our lives – mom.

No mom, no us, no kidding……

Though my mom’s been gone for over a decade now, I still miss her, and am grateful be became closer in her later years.  If you’re celebrating the day with your mom, give her a hug for me too.

She deserves it.

Songs about mom, in no particular order:

MAMA TOLD ME – THREE DOG NIGHT

MAMMA MIA – ABBA

DON’T CRY DADDY – ELVIS PRESLEY

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY – QUEEN

MAMA’S PEARL – JACKSON FIVE

MOTHER AND CHILD REUNION – PAUL SIMON

ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE – JERRY BUTLER

YOUR MOTHER SHOULD KNOW – THE BEATLES

MOTORCYCLE MAMA – SAILCAT

MOTHER’S LITTLE HELPER – THE ROLLING STONES

YOUR MAMA DON’T DANCE – LOGGINS AND MESSINA

MAMA CAN’T BUY YOU LOVE – ELTON JOHN

….and one of my personal favorites….

THE SON OF HICKORY HOLLER’S TRAMP – O.C. SMITH
