APRIL 8 BIRTHDAYS

1941 – J.J. Jackson (‘But It’s Alright’)

1947 – Steve Howe (Yes/guitar)

1962 – Izzy Stradlin (Guns N’Roses/guitar)

1963 – Julian Lennon (John’s son)

ON THIS DAY

1964 – The Supremes recorded their first #1 record ‘Where Did Our Love Go’ at Hitsville in Detroit.  They would go on to become the most commercially successful group to come out of Motown with 46 chart singles, 12 of which hit #1.

1967 – John Lennon took his personal Rolls Royce to coach builders J.P. Fallon Ltd. in Surrey to see if they could paint his car in psychedelic colors.  they could, they did (for a price), and it went on to become one of the most iconic vehicles of the decade.  John also customized the car with an inside/outside sound system, a Sony tv, telephone, and a refrigerator which what very lavish for the time.

1994 – Kurt Cobain’s body was found by electrician Gary Smith discovered it in the greenhouse while working at his home in Seattle.  A suicide note was also found that said “I haven’t felt the excitement of listening to as well as creating music, along with really writing…for too many years now”.  A high concentration of heroin and traces of Valium were also found in Kurt’s body.

2012 – Hard as this may be to believe, this is a true story…I couldn’t make up anything like this.  Organizers for the (then upcoming) 2012 London Olympic Games asked the manager of The Who if legendary drummer Keith Moon (who died in 1978) would be able to perform.  Who manager Bill Curbishley emailed back to the committee: “Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium, having lived up to The Who’s classic line ‘I hope I die before I get old’.  If they have a round table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him”.  He never heard back from them.

1998 – Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood was saved from certain death, along with 11 other passengers, in the nick of time from a burning boat when the engine caught on fire just south of Rio De Janeiro.  They were rescued by nearby journalists who got everyone off just as the boat exploded.
