Today’s Top Ten Was All About Cher & Pat Benatar!
Cher will light up US Airways Center this Saturday night with special guest, Pat Benatar! So… We thought we would make them the subject of today’s Top Ten Tuesday! In case you missed any of the songs today, here’s how things went…
6am. #10. “Shadows Of Night” by Pat Benatar
Pat Benatar won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female four years in a row. “Shadows Of The Night” was her third win, following “Crimes Of Passion” and “Fire And Ice.”
7am. #9. “Dark Lady” By Cher
Cher performed this song throughout her Do You Believe? Tour in the 90’s, for the first time in twenty-five years. It’s the story about a woman who visits a fortune teller and finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her. Later, she figures out it’s with the fortune teller!
8am. #8 “Heartbreaker” by Pat Benatar
It was Pat’s first big hit, and the popularity of “Heartbreaker” over the years has led it to be included in many music games, including Rock Band & Guitar Hero: World Tour.
9am. #7. “Gypsy’s, Tramps & Thieves” by Cher
The song was written by songwriter Bob Stone and was originally called “Gypsys, Tramps and White Trash”. Producer Snuff Garrett liked the song, but not the title so Stone changed it to “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves.” Probably a good move!
10am. #6 “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar
It was written by Eddie Schwartz who was in a kind of therapy where they punched pillows which helped in getting out hostility. He was standing on a doorstep one day when the title just came to him, “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”…. He said, “I haven’t been to therapy since. Maybe I should go back.”
11am #5. “The Beat Goes On” by Sonny & Cher
It was kind of a nothing sounding song until session bass player Carol Kay said, “how about this”… and came up with the famous opening bass line.
12pm. #4 “We Belong” by Pat Benatar
The song was a “relationship” type of song written by a man, from a man’s perspective. But, Pat Benatar did a great job in maneuvering that minefield when she sang it!
1pm. #3 “I Got You Babe” by Sonny & Cher
In the movie Groundhog Day Bill Murray wakes up to this song every morning at precisely 6:00 AM on the alarm clock in his hotel room.
2pm. #2 “Love Is A Battlefield” by Pat Benatar
The Valley’s on Brooke White sang this on American Idol in 2008, but really slowed it down, which is what the songwriter had in mind originally. Pat Benatar sang it much faster which worked out pretty well!
3pm. #1 “If I Could Turn Back Time” by Cher
The music video was filmed with the crew on board the USS Missouri while it was stationed at the former Long Beach Naval Shipyard. Cher said that they were funny. They kept calling me ‘ma’am.'”
