ON THIS DAY

1957 – The ‘Killer’, Jerry Lee Lewis secretly married his 13 year old second cousin cousin Myra Gale Brown.   The marriage was kept under wraps until a May 1958 British tour where a news reporter learned about the marriage, Jerry Lee’s third.  The news essentially ended his rock and roll career, and another fact that didn’t come out until much later:  Jerry lee hadn’t divorced his second wife before he married Myra!  Hard to believe he’s outlived Elvis, Carl Perkins, and JohnnyCash, who were all label mates at Sun Records.

1957 – a disc jockey at KEX radio in Potland, Oregon was fired after playing Elvis presley’s version of ‘White Christmas’.  According to station management at the time; ‘It’s not in the spirit we associate with Christmas.’ (I’m not making this stuff up)

1967 – Rolling stones guitarist Brian Jones was given 3 years probation and a $2,000 fine for drug offenses.  Three psychiatrists involved with the case were unanimous in their belief that Brian was an extremely frightened young man with suicidal tendencies.  In July 1969, he as found dead (under mysterious circumstances) at the bottom of his swimming pool.  Brian was 27 years old.

1992 – Whitney Houston’s sountrack album ‘The Bodyguard’ began a 20 week run atop the Billboard album chart. with sales of over 44 million copies, it not only became the biggest selling soundtrack of all time, but also ranks as one of the biggest selling albums of all time – period.

2003 – Mick Jagger became Sir Mick Jagger after being knighted by Prince charles at Buckingham Palace.  Mick’s 92 year old father was also in attendance.
