Peter Gabriel Working On New Album
“I’m focused on music, technology and benefit projects in pretty equal parts at the moment,” he told the magazine.
The 63-year-old took a year off from recording music in order to travel with his family. “I wanted to purely spend time with the family and have a sabbatical year. I meant to do that when I was fifty, so I was only thirteen years behind schedule,” he said.
So far, he has recorded close to twenty songs for the as-yet-untitled album. However, he does not have a timeline for when the album would be completed. “I’d rather just pick a month rather than a year. It’s safer that way,” he joked, adding that it will come in March (neglecting to attach a year to the “announcement”).
Gabriel was also pressed asked about Phil Collins’ recent announcement about a possible Genesis tour. Although he did not shoot it down, he is unsure when a reunion would take place. “It’s never been ruled out. I’m trying to picture a time when it would top my priorities list though,” he said.
“But it leaves an enormous hole. In many ways, he was a father figure to all those who have campaigned for the rights of others, or for justice. I hope we see some other people emerge with his qualities, but I have my doubts.”
