The fact that this record was banned on most of the radio stations when it came out is no surprise. The surprise is that enough radio stations played “I Want My Baby Back” by Jimmy Cross to push it to #92 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Though not strictly a Halloween song, because of the nature of the macabre lyrics, it fits right in with the season.
I only heard it once on the radio, but it was enough. It haunted me for years before I finally found out who sang it and what the song title was.
Originally intended as a parody of teenage death songs of the period, this one took it further – way further. Even to this day, some would say they too it TOO far.
The world’s worst record?
That’s for you to decide.
