George Thorogood & The Destroyers  have played stages all over the country for more than four decades: they played Live Aid, opened for the Rolling Stones and jammed with Bo Diddley. But it was only this year that saw them hit the historic Montreux Jazz Festival, which has been held annually in Switzerland since 1967.

If you missed it, you’re in luck: on November 19, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release George Thorogood & The Destroyers: Live At Montreux 2013 on DVD, Blu-ray and CD. Featuring some of the band’s biggest hits, the release captures the group’s take on Chicago blues blended with their own inimitable style.

Thorogood may have limited range – but he says that knowing what you’re good at is a skill in and of itself. In a 2011 interview, he told told Radio.com “Every good actor knows their chops. You don’t ask John Wayne to do Shakesphere. You don’t ask Woody Allen to do westerns. I know what Thorogood was cut out to do,” he said, referring to himself in the third person. “When I heard Howlin’ Wolf’s voice, and Johnny Cash’s voice and Jimmy Reed’s voice,” he knew that he wanted to make cut and dried music. “I said to myself, ‘What are you, George? You play a mean guitar and you’re funny.’ And I said, ‘Put those two things together, that’s gonna be my thing.'”
