Breaking Bad’s series finale last night may be one of the best of all time.

Walter White’s fade to black was punctuated with a 41 year old song that has received more attention than when it became a top 15 hit for Badfinger in the spring of 1972.

The group, originally known as The Iveys, had their first hit in 1970 with the Paul McCartney penned song ‘Come and Get It’,  which Paul also produced. It was featured in the film ‘The Magic Christian’ that starred Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr.

Two more top 10 singles followed: ‘No Matter What’ in the fall of 1970, and ‘Day After Day’ in 1971 which featured Leon Russell on piano, and George Harrison on guitar, who also produced the record.

‘Baby Blue’ was the groups last top 20 hit.  They had three more chart singles but by the time the 80’s rolled around, their lead singer Pete Ham (who wrote ‘Baby Blue’)  and bass player Tom Evans had both committed suicide, Pete in 1975 and Tom in 1983.

With the exposure of their classic song last night, Badfinger may be primed for a resurgence.

Time will tell.
