Disneyland as been called “the happiest place on earth” for a lot of good reasons. My first trip to the Magic Kingdom came in 1963 when dad drove the entire family from Haskell, Oklahoma to Anaheim over 3 days. Even though there were five of us packed – and I do mean packed, in my grandmother’s Rambler, it was worth it all when we got there.
I still have an original “E”” ticket from my book and the memories that are still fresh, but they were brought into an even sharper focus when I found this compilation of various home movies taken over the first few months on the parks opening in 1955. There’s no information as to whether this is previously unreleased footage, but if you’ve been to the park within the past few years or so, you won’t believe its relatively humble beginnings in these amazingly clear films, and the amount of stuff that’s no longer there.
