Last month Art Garfunkel canceled tour dates for the rest of the year in support of his new hits package ‘The Singer’. The 2 disc set features two new tracks he recorded literally one word at a time. Art’s vocal problems began a couple of years ago when the effects of vocal paresis, which is a weakening of one or both vocal folds, became apparent, and they haven’t healed as quickly as had been hoped. I talked with him at the time of the album’s release in August, and he spoke of his frustration at that time.
Here’s what he said about piecing fragments together in the studio to make a complete song, and how far back his voice had come from its lowest point.
My hope is a full recovery so we can hear more from one of the most beautiful voices of all time – and a great guy to have a conversation with.
Here’s one of the two new songs he recorded earlier this year. It’s titles ‘Lena’ , and while you’re listening, keep in mind the process he had to go through to get it completed. My hope is a full recovery so we can hear more from one of the most beautiful voices of all time. Thank God for technology so we at least have this in the meantime.
