“So long. Farewell. Auf Wiedersehen, adieu. Adieu…adieu…to yieu and yieu and yieu!” Yep, this is the last blog I’ll write on this website. Today will be my last show on 94.5 KOOL-FM.
You may think I do my 3-hour dog and pony show each day and then head home. In reality, I have two positions at KOOL. In addition to middays on-air, I am also Assistant Program Director (the “office/desk” job). My workday starts around 6am and generally wraps up late in the evening. This has been my deal for many years at various stations, as it’s difficult to make decent money in radio unless you wear a bunch of hats! After a LOT of reflection, I’ve decided that I need to take some of those hats off and cut back my working hours. I have a big head, but not THAT big!
My goal was to continue at KOOL in an on-air capacity and relinquish the APD duties. Unfortunately, that isn’t feasible for management at this time. So, I asked to be released from my contract. For the record: I was NOT forced out. There is no hostility in this departure. We’ve all uttered the phrase, “it is what it is.”
While I may not be angry, I AM sad. I’ve had such an amazing time for the last three years at CBS/Phoenix! Starting across the hall in afternoons at KMLE (that is where I was initially hired) and straight through middays at KOOL, I’ve made many friends – both on and off the air. I’m so proud to say YOU are one of them. Let’s all sing the Golden Girls theme together…“Thank you for being a friend.”
Today’s show will be no different than any of the other hundreds I’ve done at KOOL – with one exception: “The All-Request KOOL Cafe” at Noon will be themed. Today, I’ll take requests for “goodbye” songs. Do you have a favorite song about leaving, endings or closure? I’m not looking for sappy stuff. They can be FUN! Call me after 10am at 602-260-9494 and tell me what to play.
In the words of Detective Columbo, “ahh…just one more thing.” Let’s not lose touch! People have asked “where are you going?” As of today, there is NO destination (unless you count my backyard with a tasty beverage). However, I’m on Facebook and Twitter and will continue to post there after I leave the building. I sure hope you’ll follow me
