September 6, 1968 – Eric Clapton overdubs a guitar solo onto the new George Harrison song ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ which would be included on The Beatles ‘White’ album.
September 6, 1975 – Glen Campbell started a two week run atop the Billboard Hot 100 with Rhinestone Cowboy. It was the first of two #1 hits with ‘Southern Nights’ returning Gen to the top in 1977.
September 6, 1990 – Creedence Clearwater Revival guitarist and brother of John Fogerty, Tom Fogerty died of complications from AIDS acquired during a blood transfusion. He was 49.
September 6, 1997 – Elton John recoded a new version of ‘Candle In the Wind’ which went on to become the biggest selling single of all time.
September 6, 1970 – Jimi Hendrix made his final live appearance when he appeared at the Isle of Fehmarn in Germany. Twelve days later, he was dead.
