Hall and Oates To Namesake Super PAC: ‘I Can’t Go For That’
Last week came the news that Atlanta-based Hall and Oates fans had started a Super PAC called The Hall and Oates Fans for America Super PAC. It got a bit of attention, mostly for its novel name – so much so that Hall and Oates caught wind of it. And it seems they “can’t go for that” – no can do.
The band have asked the organizers behind The Hall and Oates Fans for America Super PAC to dissolve the group. As Hall and Oates’ manager Jonathan Wolfson explained to Politicker.com (full statements below), the Philly duo would rather not be associated with a political fundraising effort.
The Super PAC has obliged, shutting it down despite never having a website or means of collecting donations to begin with – and admitting to Rolling Stone that started as a drunken joke. The group claimed not to be tied to any political party, but there was plenty of anti-Republican talk in one of the founder’s first interviews. The Super PAC’s goal was to create parody YouTube videos that incorporated Hall and Oates songs in the months leading up to the election, supposedly pointed at Mitt Romney and running mate Paul Ryan.
Statements from Hall and Oates’ manager Jonathan Wolfson:
“Representatives of Daryl Hall and John Oates have been in contact with the founders of the Hall and Oates Fans For America Super PAC and are pleased to report that the group’s concerns regarding the unauthorized use of their names for fundraising purposes by the Super PAC have been amicably resolved and that the Super PAC is being dissolved by the founders. The spokesperson for the founders advised that no funds have been raised by the PAC.
Daryl Hall and John Oates recognize that the personal view points of their fans cross all political spectrums and are honored to be supported by their fans everywhere regardless of political affiliation. The PAC’s founders recognize that the use of the “Hall” and “Oates” names for the purpose of raising funds is not an appropriate fan activity no matter what the goal of the fund raising activities might be.
Daryl Hall and John Oates are pleased that the amicable dialog with the founders of the Super PAC have brought an expedient resolution to this matter and achieve a result both sides are pleased with.”
