Before Neil Diamond had his first top 10 hit with Cherry Cherry, he had several flops under his belt including a song called Clown Town and a couple of singles as Neil and Jack.  In 1965, he  wrote Sunday and Me, a top 20 hit for Jay and the Americans, which gave his career the boost it needed to help  him get his own record deal.  In this 1972 promotional interview, Neil talked about those pre-hit songwriting years, before success took over.
