Where Were You On June 18,1983

As a long time fan of the space program going all the way back to Alan Shepherd and john Glenn’s flights,  I do remember being glued to the television to see history being made. That’s the day Sally Ride became the first American woman in space when she flew aboard space shuttle Challenger for a six day mission.  She also flew a second shuttle mission in 1984 before leaving the astronaut corps in 1987.  Sally Ride died today after a 17 month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 61.

In 2008 she talked about her historic flights.
