On this day in 1969, David Bowie‘s Space Oddity was first released, times to coincide with the Apollo moon landing. it was a mid chart hit at the time. But when the recording was re-issued in 1973, it became his first top 20 hit here in the states, and a #1 hit in the UK two years later.
