Today’s birthdays include The Seekers (Georgy Girl) lead female vocalist Judith Durham who turns 69, Little Feat guitarist Paul Barrerre is 64, Fontella Bass (Rescue Me) is 63, and Depeche Mode keyboardist Vince Clarke is 52.

Two rock and roll legends died on July 3:  Brian Jones who had been booted out of The Rolling Stones the previous month, was found drowned in the pool at his home in Cotchford Farm, Hartford, East Sussex.  To this day rumors persist foul play was involved.  He was 27.

On July 3 1971, The Doors front man Jim Morrison was found dead of a reported heart attack in a bathtub in Paris, France.  Through the years his death has had its own set of rumors associated with it.  Jim was also just 27.

During their first American tour in 1964, Brian compared The Rolling Stones with The Beatles and other British groups that were beginning to make an impact on the American market.
