I always get requests for this one during my KOOL Nights show and thought I should also feature it for the KOOL Kollective – as it IS a popular classic.
When most people hear “Unchained Melody”, they think of the movie, Ghost, which is how it gained more popularity with the younger generations.
The song was originally released in 1955 by Alex North, but in 1965, it’s when the Righteous Brothers made it an even bigger hit by reaching #4 in the U.S. charts.
In 2003, the Brothers were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and in 2012 – the Hit Parade Hall of Fame…very KOOL endeavors.
In 2003, Bobby Hatfield died of an apparent cocaine overdose. Although autopsy reports state it was heart failure. He was to perform with Bill Medley shortly after he was found dead in his hotel room in Kalamazoo, MI at Miller Auditorium.
