Today In Pop Music – May 24 – McCartney In The U.S.S.R.

May 24 birthdays include Bob Dylan who turns 71 today, Blue Oyster Cult (Don’t Fear The Reaper) drummer Albert Bouchardt is 65, songstress Patti LaBelle (Lady Marmalade – On My Own), and Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson is 43.

On this day in 2003, Paul McCartney made his first-ever live performance in Russia.  It was a rainy day, but skies cleared as Paul hit the stage and rewarded over 20,000 fans who had braved the weather in Red Square with a  historic event that included an emotional performance of Back In The U.S.S.R.
