Mick Fleetwood Blames Stevie Nicks
If you’re a [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Fleetwood Mac[/lastfm] fan like me, you may be wondering why the group hasn’t reunited for a tour in quite some time. We all know [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Christine McVie[/lastfm] hasn’t played the game in years. But, the rest of the gang always seems into it.
[photogallerylink id=47654 align=left]According to [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Mick Fleetwood[/lastfm], that all lies on [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Stevie Nicks[/lastfm].
Earlier this week, I mentioned that Stevie’s hitting the road again to open for [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Rod Stewart[/lastfm], just like we saw at US Airways Center last year.. She’s supporting her new album, In Dreams. Fleetwood believes Nicks’ constant efforts towards her solo career is THE reason a Fleetwood Mac reunion stalled.
He also feels it squashes any hopes of the band reuniting in the future. According to his interview in Playboy magazine, “I don’t believe Fleetwood Mac will ever tour again, but I really hope we do.”
The band planned to reunite for a major world tour in 2010 after trekking through Australia in 2009. Solo albums from [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lindsey Buckingham[/lastfm] and Nicks (which Mick played drums on) brought Fleetwood Mac’s momentum to a halt, but hopes still rested on the idea of gathering the troops in 2011. The band, sans Nicks, even spent most of 2010 preparing themselves for the stage.
“We have rehearsed and prepared for it since 2010. We were supposed to tour in 2011, but we delayed it for a year to allow Stevie Nicks to support her solo record and for Lindsey Buckingham to do the same with his.”
Fleetwood has always been supportive of other band members solo efforts, but it appears he may be at the end of his rope regarding Nicks, who seems consumed by her personal project.
“I understand what she likes about her situation: Touring in support of her album, she is able to be her, without any degree of compromise. She doesn’t have to worry about the other three of us asking her to do anything… She has become obsessed with her album in a very nice but inconvenient way.”
