The first [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Beatles[/lastfm] record was released in America 49 years ago this month, but it wasn’t released on Capitol Records which would have been a logical choice since their British counterpart had great success with the band in 1963.  But on February 27, 1963, the first American [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Beatles[/lastfm] record was issued on Vee-Jay records, best known as the label of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Four Seasons[/lastfm].  Producer [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]George Martin[/lastfm] recalls scrambling to find that first record deal while Capitol “sat on their thumbs.”
