The Colbert Report has never canceled a show since it started airing in 2001, and Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show has only been suspended twice.  Once for the birth of Jon’s second child and a second time for the death of a staff member, so the decision to halt production of Stephen Colbert’s show had to be something major.

The Wall Street Journel reports that the decision to cancel Wednesday and Thursday’s tapings was due to “an emergency in Mr. Colbert’s family.” The brief statement issued by Comedy Central blamed an ‘unforseen reason”.

Even the mother ship got a taste of Colbert when he appeared on the CBS early Show a few years back.  Harry Smith never knew what hit him.
