Cherry Hill Park album cover - 385x280

Georgia born [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Billy Joe Royal [/lastfm]had a string of pop hits in the 60’s before turning country in the 80’s.  Songs like Down In the Boondocks, I Knew You When, Hush (which was covered by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Deep Purple[/lastfm]), and a song you’ll hear as a Turntable Tuesday tune this afternoon, Cherry Hill Park, are his best known hits.  But what isn’t as well known is the reason Billy made the statement above about Elvis: it wasn’t about his singing.
