Remembering George: 10 Years After

It was 10 years ago today when [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]George Harrison[/lastfm] lost his battle with cancer.  I’ve made no secret that George was my favorite of the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beatles[/lastfm].  I thought it would be appropriate to remember and honor George today with some of his best work.

George Harrison was certainly aware of his own mortality.  He said it best just after [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]John Lennon[/lastfm] passed:

This was George’s first solo hit, “My Sweet Lord.”

George also wrote and performed some Beatles songs, including “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”  Many years later, George performed it alongside [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ringo Starr[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eric Clapton[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Phil Collins[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Elton John[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jeff Lynne[/lastfm].  This one is REALLY KOOL!

“Got My Mind Set On You” actually had TWO different videos produced.  Here’s the one that played most often.

The second video is on the next page.

I think I saw this version ONCE in my life.  Well, make that twice – if you include NOW.

Many have forgotten “Blow Away.”  No surprise, it’s my favorite from George!

Another of George’s hits for The Beatles was “Something.”

You gotta love George’s tribute to John Lennon, “All Those Years Ago.”

I think we’ve ALL asked the musical question, “What Is Life?”

Lastly, who remembers the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Traveling Wilburys[/lastfm]?  That group in the late 80’s featured George Harrison, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bob Dylan[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tom Petty[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Roy Orbison[/lastfm] and Jeff Lynne.  “Handle With Care” was one of their big hits.
