It has been a big week for metal fans – Black Sabbath have announced a 2012 reunion with the original lineup.
The legendary English band, one of the benchmark bands for all things metal, will be recording a new album as well as touring.
Fronted by the iconic [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ozzy Osbourne[/lastfm], Black Sabbath formed over forty years ago in Birmingham, England. Often credited with giving birth to the genres heavy metal and doom metal, they went on to release eighteen studio albums – resulting in almost 50,000,000 scrobbles.
The announcement of a new album marks their first since 1995′s Forbidden – an album which ended the reign of Tony Martin as the Black Sabbath vocalist after Ozzy Osbourne’s departure in the late 1980′s.
Unsurprisingly, it is their material with Ozzy Osbourne that has yielded the most scrobbles. Their first three albums are their most popular, with 1970′s Paranoid being scrobbled 8,492,533 times, the self-titled debut in second place with 3,304,441 scrobbles and 1971′s Master Of Reality in third with 3,258,123 scrobbles.
Despite no new material in so long, fans are still consistently scrobbling Black Sabbath in huge numbers. They manage over 180,000 scrobbles every week – with an upturn already spotted due to the announcement of their reunion.
