I’ve heard a lot of stories about what happened to [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Rick Nelson[/lastfm] when he played Madison Square Garden for a rock and roll revival concert in 1972. Some I talked to claimed to have been there and told me what they saw. But until I caught up with Rick a few years before his death in 1972, I really hadn’t gotten a first person account of the event. Thankfully Rick set the record straight for me as tape was rolling.

Rick ricky or whatever should have been booed. He showed up in God knows what condition and started to “ walk” his way through the act.. Remember what caused his death..
Like so many before and after he was “ ENTITLED” to get love from the people…..
NO RICKY THEY PAID GOOD MONEY AND WHAT YOU DID WAS TO TAKE THEIR MONEY AND RUN……
This is why when an oldies group gives it their all I applaude them.

Were you there in ’71 Pete? And a plane crash caused his death. Reports of ‘free basing” were incorrect and corrected within 48 hour, and again dismissed after the FAA investigation. He had his problems, and as someone that met him on 4 occasions, I can say he was nothing but considerate, extremely shy, and a very tough interview because he didn’t feel he had that much to say. And his last band DID put on a great show. Appreciate the comment. – Steve
