[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Andy Williams[/lastfm], who’s best known for his 60’s television variety show, and his recordings of Moon River and Christmas classic It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year, broke the news to his audience during a performance last night of his 2011 [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Andy Wiliams[/lastfm] Christmas Show in Branson, Missouri.
83 year old Andy told his audience “I do have cancer of the bladder, but that is no longer a death sentence. People with cancer are getting through this thing.”
In 1999, a polyp was discovered in his vocal chords. Resisting surgery, he chose to rest his voice with no singing and little talking for nearly a year until the polyp went away pon its own. He was forced to cancel tours of the U.S. and England, and more than 100 shows at the Moon River Theatre in Branson, where he’s been appearing on a regular basis since 1992, usually performing two shows a day, six days a week, for nine months out of the year.
The theatre’s website had no mention of his diagnosis, but does say “due to health reasons Andy may not make a live appearance at his Christmas Show.”
Here are a few of his big hits.
We send our thoughts and prayers his way.
