Jimmy Buffett‘s new Margaritaville Casino in Las Vegas celebrated its grand opening Friday by mixing up the world’s largest margarita, earning them a place in the Guinness Book of World Records, an honor it previously held from 2001 – 2010. The resort dubbed the two-story cocktail “one part opening celebration and over 2000 parts tequila.” It took three days — and more than 300 man-hours — to mix it. The 8,500-gallon beverage, nicknamed “Lucky Rita,” will serve 181,333 12-ounce drinks over an estimated 10 days.
Surpassing the previous record holder by 873 gallons, Lucky Rita includes 2,125 gallons of Margaritaville Gold Tequila, 708 gallons of Margaritaville Triple Sec, 5,667 gallons Margarita mix and 22,267 limes.
Buffett surprised those on hand by coming out halfway through the opening ceremony and raising a glass of Lucky Rita with the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team. For every gallon of Lucky Rita sold, Margaritaville will donate $5 to the team.
