The Metropolitan Museum Of Art a great alternative to a rainy day!
Since his first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964 with the Beatles,Ringo Starr played a Ludwig “Oyster Black Pearl”drum set with the Ludwig logo displayed on the bass drum. Ringo was so excited to use an American made drum set he always made sure the Ludwig logo was displayed. With the Beatles exploding on the music scene the Ludwig Drum Company had to mass produce the drum sets 24 hours a day seven days a week! As a tribute and thank you to Ringo, William F. Ludwig Jr ordered a Special gold plated drum bearing a plaque that reads”RINGO STARR,THE BEATLES”. He presented it to Ringo when the Fab 4 made their first appearance in Chicago in September 1964!Ringo has owned the Golden Drum ever since. It is on loan to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City Still today!
