You’d better start saving now. A ton of material from Pink Floyd is abut to be released, and I do mean a ton. Members of Pink Floyd have been working together with EMI music over the last year to compile a complete, multi-format release of all the band’s material.
All of the band’s material has been compiled, much of it archived, for a three part release that will utilize many media platforms.
The collection, entitled Why Pink Floyd…?, will include various formats such as CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, SACD (Super Audio CD), an array of digital formats, viral marketing, and iPhone Apps. The idea behind the multi-platform release is to appeal to Pink Floyd‘s broad fan base, whether they be young, old, tech savvy, or a fan of things the “way they used to be.”
The three step release process begins on September 26th. This first release will include all fourteen remastered “Discovery” edition studio albums , a box set of all fourteen albums with photo books, and audio downloads of “Discovery” albums and box set. It will also include The Dark Side of The Moon “Immersion” and Experience editions with vinyl LP and digital editions.
The second release date will be on November 7th and will include A Foot In The Door: The Best of Pink Floyd and Wish You Were Here “Immersion” and “Experience” editions with vinyl LP and digital editions.
The third and final release date won’t be until February 27th, 2012. The final release will include The Wall “Immersion” and “Experience” editions with vinyl LP and digital editions.
