What’s the common thread that could bind [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Beatles[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Rolling Stones[/lastfm],  [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Sex Pistols[/lastfm], and The Olympics (the games, not the group)?

The stars of Britain’s most famous rock groups have been tipped to come together to form a spectacular supergroup for the launch of the London Olympics.

Organizers of the upcoming 2012 games are currently working out plans for the opening ceremony, which will be directed by Oscar winner Danny Boyle.

“If Sir[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Paul McCartney[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ringo Starr[/lastfm] came together with great bands like the Rolling Stones and the[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Sex Pistols[/lastfm] it would be fantastic,” gold medal-winning rower Steve Redgrave told The People newspaper. He is hoping to see McCartney and Starr team up with with[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mick Jagger[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]John Lydon[/lastfm] to put on a powerful display of British music talent to open the festivities.

Anyone taking bets on this one?
