Are crooks stupid…or are they genius? A New York man tried to get a refund at Walmart for a television he didn’t own. In fact, the 55″ screen had never even left the store! He grabbed it right off the shelf and headed straight for the returns counter!!! Did he get the money? You’ll be surprised at the answer.

A Watervliet man was arrested after he picked up a $1,900 flat-screen TV off the shelf at Wal-Mart and took it straight to the returns counter, police said.

Philemon Ofosu, 23, was at the Latham Farms Wal-Mart on Troy-Schenectady Road just before 7 p.m. April 12 when he tried to pull the bold trick, according to Colonie police.

He got $1,995.84 cash for returning the 55-inch Samsung, police said, after which security detained him and called police.

Ofosu was charged with grand larceny and sent to the Albany County Jail.

How on earth does anyone get almost $2,000.00 in cash without a receipt??? I hope the customer service employee was fired!

That’s what I was wondering. I have to have a receipt to return items no matter the cost of the item. I would think an item such as a high priced TV would require a receipt for sure.

I guess they went through the routine just to pacify him until the police came, but still. Chutzpah!🙂

If they hadn’t completed the supposed return, what could they charge him with? Stupidity? In order to arrest him for grand larceny, he had to commit the crime so you complete the return THEN arrest him.
