My name is Keisher Ballew I would like to nominate my daughter Kiana Ballew(kiki) an 8th grade student at Wigwam Creek Middle school.  Kiki is a very intelligent young lady who has had her mind made up to attend UCLA for the past 2 years.  Next year she will attend AAEC High School which will enable her to earn her associates degree while  earning her high school diploma.   Kiki has managed to stay focused on her studies as well as her future despite the tragic loss of her 5 year old brother Eric Ballew Jr.  Eric Passed away 8 years ago as a result of Influenza A.  Unfortunately she was the first person to see Ej that morning, they slept right next to each other the night before.  We were on vacation for Thanksgiving, he passed the morning after Thanksgiving day.  EJ and Kiki were inseparable (they were 18 months apart).  Kiki experienced a lot of feelings of just not wanting to live  anymore without EJ.  This has been heartbreaking and gut wrenching to watch a small child go through such a tragedy and not really know how to cope.  Thanks to my prayers and Gods healing hand she is living her life and for the most part she is a very happy, loving, caring and one of the most giving human being that I have ever met.  A few years after EJ’s passing Kiki’s father and I decided to end our marriage in divorce.  Her father, a well educated man is no longer a part of her life as a result of his own life struggles.  However, this continues to be an ongoing struggle for her because she doesn’t understand and I can’t explain why her path of life had to cross this terrible intersection.  I pray that she will continue to keep her head held high, keep trusting in the Lord, and continue to do a beautiful job in school.  I forgot to mention that she is also a National Junior Honor Society student.
