Time For The Boys Of Spring!

cactus league1 Time For The Boys Of Spring!

Spring time in Arizona is very unique to most of the country.  While other cities are still shaking off the “sting” of winter weather, we in the Valley of the Sun are ready to welcome Major League Baseball fans from around the world for Cactus League Spring Training.  Over half of all major league teams come here to Arizona for the month of March and help put some action in the air and on the ground!  Guess what’s new…Hint: It’s here to stay!

One of the hottest tickets in town is to the brand new “Salt River Fields at Talking Stick!” This stadium is the new Cactus League home to the Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Located on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation, this the first Major League Baseball spring Training facility to be built on Indian land. Last year, more than 1.47 million fans atteneded games in March, generating nearly $ 350 million in economic impact for our state! Batter UP! Now, Let’s GO!

YEAH!!! There was a report on AOL Sports News about where the MLB teams are ranked for Spring Training, and surprise, the CUBS are ranked 21st. Maybe I’ll have to start rooting for other teams. :)

What I do know is that “Cubs” fans are some of the most dedicated supporters in all of baseball. I have been to Chicago many times and love the city. It has always been interesting to me that as the population of Arizona has exploded, it has been difficult for sports fans, of any sport, to move here and abandon the loyalty for their previous hometown team. I guess it means that Dorothy, in the Wizard Of Oz, was right..there is no place like home. At least when it comes to fan loyalty. Thanks Liz!!
