Women spend an average of $85 on Valentine’s gifts. The biggest consumers of Valentine’s Day merchandise are between 25 and 34, with each spending an average of $164.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Americans celebrate Valentine’s Day most often by giving greeting cards. 65% of us will give a Valentine’s Day card today. The second most popular Valentine’s gift is a romantic dinner. 44% of us will be dining out tonight at a romantic restaurant. The third most popular Valentine’s Day gift is candy (38%) followed by flowers (32%), gift cards (29%), plush toys (21%), some other kind of gift (17%), perfume or cologne (12%), and, surprisingly, jewelry comes in last at 11%.
