
Don Kirshner on Rock Concert
Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert was just a small part of his career. As I blogged earlier he was music director for the [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Monkees[/lastfm] tv show, and he was also the force behind the cartoon band [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Archies[/lastfm], ran three record labels in the 70′s, including Kirshner which launched the band [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Kansas[/lastfm]. His initial rise to prominence was as a co-founder if Aldon Music publishing company with partner Al Nevins who had some of the best of the Brill Building songwriters under contract. The roster included [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Carole King[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Gerry Goffin[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Neil Sedaka[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Howard Greenfield[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Barry Mann[/lastfm], Cynthia [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Weil[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Bobby Darin[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Neil Diamond[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Sarah Dash[/lastfm] of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Labelle[/lastfm].
