Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, will be home for the holidays — just where she wanted to be.
Franklin was released from a Detroit hospital Sunday, her camp said today, after undergoing a Dec. 2 surgery that was deemed “highly successful,” in a press release.
Her publicist has not revealed what kind of surgery or discussed the nature of her illness.
Franklin, 68, has pancreatic cancer, according to a variety of news reports and a source who told the Free Press for a report last week. Neither Franklin nor her spokesperson has confirmed the diagnosis.
Her publicist released a statement this evening stating that Franklin is in “great spirits and very happy to be home where she will be resting in anticipation of spending the upcoming holiday season with her family.”
“I’ve been at home for almost three days now,” a statement from Franklin reads. “My family and friends who brought me home are taking great care of me. I also have a private nurse who visits on a daily basis. I’m hoping to be strong enough to go out and see the upcoming Sam Cooke play at the Music Hall in downtown Detroit before Jan. 2, as well as a performance of ‘Dreamgirls’ at the Fox before it closes.”
