Fulton Homes Be KOOL Stay In School
Congratuations to Paris Pena…our featured Fulton Homes Be KOOL Stay in School kid. Paris was nominated by her God Parents.
My husband Phillip and I would love to nominate our God Daughter Paris Pena for the Be Kool Stay in School honor. Two years ago when Paris was a straight A student and we all knew college was in her future she was diagnosed with Leukemia Lymphoma. Because of this deadly blood cancer she had to miss a lot of school, she had to undergo many kemo treatments, spinal taps and blood transfusions, she could not be around other children because she could catch germs very easily and her disease could get much worse.
While this might discourage some children, I have never seen a more brave girl. Paris turned her illness into a crusade. Paris gave a speech about her illness and how it affected her. She gave a speech on her illness to a group of adults with leukemia called ‘Team in Training.’ She participated in a video for Phx. Childrens Hospitala and she has been very active in raising funds for research for the Leukemia Lymphoma Foundation. Last year, she was picked as one of the Sunshine Kids and went to New Orleans and rode on the float with the super bowl champions.
Paris is now 13 years old and in remission she will receive her last treatment in Jan. She is back in school in the 8th grade at Zuni Hills Elementary school in Peoria. She is maintaining her straight A average and was just voted President of the National Honor Society. College will be an important part of her future.
She is an inspiration to us all and is truly deserving of this scholarship thank you
