Mike Edwards, who  played cello with [lastfm]Electric Light Orchestra[/lastfm] from 1972 to 1975, died from freak collision with a huge hay bale that rolled down a steep hill outside of London this past Friday.

According to Sgt. Steve Walker of the Devon and Cornwall Police, Edwards was driving a van Friday when he collided with a 600-kilogram (1,300 pound) hay bale that had rolled down a hill to the road.  Mike Edwards was 62.

There are some great shots of Mike in this 1973 [lastfm]ELO[/lastfm] performance on “Midnight Special”.
