manhattans Are you kidding me: Kiss and Say Goodbye was written as a country song

This is a weird story – big 1976 #1 hit for [lastfm]The Manhattans[/lastfm] was written with a couple of country singers in mind, with no thought of the R & B group recording it – that’s according to the song’s writer and group member Blue Lovett.

    BRISTOL, Tenn. —
Josh Housewright settles onto the bar stool, props his hand on the counter, and grins. In Stateline Bar and Grille, he is wearing cowboy boots, jeans and a short-sleeved button-up over a black T-shirt. A camera is pointed at his face.
His producer asks if he’s ready, and then the notes of “Kiss and Say Goodbye,” The Manhattans’ 1976 hit, comes through the speakers. But it’s all different – it’s country.
Housewright is set to release his first EP, “Times Like These” at the end of the month, and was in Bristol on Wednesday to film part of the music video for “Kiss and Say Goodbye.” The video will be released in April.
