A month or so ago, I blogged about a new Broadway show starring Paul Reubens (aka – Pee-Wee Herman). That six week run starts October 26th. While I don’t think his “downfall” in 1991 was fair, I was still shocked that he made this big a comeback. Now, Pee-Wee’s getting even bigger, thanks to producer Judd Apatow…
In the 80’s, we followed Pee-Wee Herman on a “Big Adventure” and to the “Big Top.” Now, get ready for a “Gigantic Adventure.”
Judd tells Variety magazine, “Let’s face it, the world needs more Pee-wee Herman. I am so excited to be working with Paul Reubens – who is an extraordinary and ground-breaking actor and writer. It’s so great to watch him return with such relevance.”
Apatow had seen the “Pee-Wee Herman Show” revival at the Nokia Theatre in LA. That’s when the light bulb lit up.
Reubens added, “there is no one like Judd in our business — he loves comedy with emotion and heart, and he sees what we do as art. I can’t believe I’m getting this opportunity to be working with him.”
Time to don the boots, play “Tequila” on the jukebox, and do the Pee-Wee Herman…right on the bar!
