A new liver to live
The legendary [lastfm]Gregg Allman[/lastfm] has a new liver. He underwent transplant surgery yesterday morning at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Doctors say: SUCCESS!
According to Allman’s manager, Michael Lehman, Gregg was groggy but awake after the surgery. “He’s psyched to put this time of his life behind him and have a chance again to feel really healthy and good, and hopefully live for many more years to come,” Lehman said.
Allman began treatment for Hepatitis C in 2007, but there was chronic damage to his liver. So, a transplant was necessary. After some time on the infamous waiting list, docs found the right liver.
He’s expected to be in the hospital for a week. Then, he’ll stay in Jacksonville for up to three weeks, and possibly be back on the road by November. Even better, Allman should be able to participate in his daughter’s wedding on July 26th. Lehman says, “It’s his dream to be able to walk her down the aisle.”
“I changed my ways years ago, but we can’t turn back time,” Allman said in a news release. “Every day is a gift, and I can’t wait to get back on the road making music with my friends.”
