Did you start your day with pancakes? Did you pour half a bottle of maple syrup on them? Good for you! Well, technically – it’s NOT good for you. But, today is Fat Tuesday…or Shrove Tuesday…or Pancake Day! Usually, this ends the huge parties of Mardi Gras on Bourbon St. in New Orleans. But, with the Saints’ Super Bowl win, it’s going to be a challenge for them to wrap up this year!
The reason we celebrate Fat Tuesday and all of it’s indulgence today is due to Ash Wednesday tomorrow. That starts Lent, the 40 day period leading up to Easter. Many Christians will practice some form of fasting, or abstain from libations and excess. You’ll hear people “giving things up for Lent.” This is a GREAT excuse to kick into that diet you resolved to do on New Year’s!
Usually, this is also designated National Pancake Day. But, this year, that happens NEXT Tuesday (2/23). If you hit up IHOP that day, you’ll get a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes. In return, they hope you’ll make a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network. Just know, donations are strictly voluntary. Since 2006, they’ve raised more than $3.25 million!
Do you acknowledge Lent? Are you giving anything up this year?
