What iconic 70′s musical opened on Valentine Day 1972?

The critics hated it – the public loved it.

The 1978 movie became the years biggest box office draw.

I would bet money you can sing along to at lease three songs from the play/movie.

In a word: Grease.

When it opened at New York’s Eden Theatre with Barry Bostwick and Carole Demas in the lead roles, no one could have predicted how big the story would become.  By the time [lastfm]John Travolta[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Olivia Newton-John [/lastfm]were cast for the movie roles, it just exploded.  When I saw it at the theatre in 1978, I didn’t think much of it.  But as time has passed it either grew on me, or I missed something the first time around.  Probably a little of both.

And the songs you know?  How about ‘You’re The One That I Want’, ‘Summer Nights’, and ‘Greased Lightning’ for starters.

Come to think of it, it’s a pretty good movie for the whole family to watch this Valentines Day.
